Preparing for Before + After the Election (And General Shorter Days)
As we navigate the election season and shorter days, prioritizing our mental and physical health is crucial. 💯
Here are some ways to stay balanced and grounded through it all:
🥘 Have Your Basic Needs Accounted For: During times of change and uncertainty, taking care of basics like food, water, warmth, and a safe space to rest can ground us. Having these essentials in place can make the more intense parts of the season feel manageable.
Also, don’t forget to fill up on gas, refill prescriptions, etc.
👥 Create a List of Important Contacts: Having a trusted support system makes all the difference. Create a list of family, friends, or mental health professionals you can reach out to if you’re feeling overwhelmed or just need someone to talk to. This can be a lifeline in moments of high stress or when it feels like too much to handle alone.
❌Limit Screen Time and Set Boundaries: With constant updates, it’s easy to feel bombarded with information, especially around election season. Set limits on your screen time and create boundaries for when, where, and how much you engage with the news and social media. Protecting your peace is essential.
💚Remember You Are Not Alone: It’s common to feel isolated or helpless during these intense periods, but you are not alone in feeling this way. Reach out, join community spaces, or connect with others online who understand. Solidarity can remind us that we’re in this together, even if it’s hard.
🌿 Keep Up with Holistic Wellness Practices: Don’t forget to tend to the holistic factors that nourish your mind and body: get enough sleep, eat foods that sustain you, and try to get outside for sunlight, even on colder days. Each small act of self-care helps keep you centered and resilient.
